For more humanized and accessible cultural institutions
ABOUT
We are an independent organization based in Madrid, dedicated to promoting and facilitating access to culture for people with autism and their families through the design of programs, training for professionals and studies and research on non-exclusive practices in the cultural sector.
We activate collaboration links between universities, cultural institutions, communities and social entities, in order to share learning and generate a greater impact from the actions we carry out.
TEAM
For a democratic, open, inclusive and diverse culture.
OUR VISION
We understand culture as a powerful tool for social transformation and cultural institutions as spaces from which to reflect on current society, negotiate new ways of living together and build stories that collect multiple identities.
OUR MISSION
We work for more humanized and accessible cultural institutions. We do this by building communities, developing programs for everyone, training professionals from cultural institutions (museums and libraries), building alliances, writing books, all with the support of partners and collaborators.
OUR VALUES
At EMPOWER we develop our programs based on the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
OUR
STORY
EMPOWER is a non-profit established in 2020 by professionals and families who, since 2013, coordinated and developed the program Empower Parents, at the ICO Museum in Madrid.
Culture and social commitment
We need more accessible, egalitarian and inclusive cultural spaces, in which respect for diversity and participation are part of the common space.
This implies a change of view that accompanies, listens and allows to express the plurality of all people.
At EMPOWER we contribute to this change from three lines of work:
TRANSFER
We empower institutions and their teams, providing them with tools and capacities so that they can implement inclusive and accessible programs that transform, on a transversal basis, institutions into more social, diverse and inclusive spaces.
EXPERIENCE
We seek new ways of participating in culture and its institutions through the development of inclusive cultural programs that respect and value the uniqueness of each person.
EXCHANGE
We promote learning and the exchange of knowledge and practices between universities, social entities, cultural institutions and professionals from different disciplines.
PARTNERS
Main Partner
The ICO Foundation's mission is to contribute to the development of society based on 5 values that make up its DNA; differentiation, excellence, alliances, transparency and accessibility.
Along these lines, since 2013, they have implemented the Empower Parents program at the ICO Museum, weaving networks between professionals and entities in order to raise awareness and make socially visible the reality of people with autism and their families.
